Myofunctional therapy aims to encourage correct oral resting posture with the tongue resting at the roof of the mouth, teeth slightly apart, and lips lightly sealed. This can be achieved through simple exercises focused on strengthening the associated muscles.
Overtime this therapy can aid in proper nasal breathing, quality of sleep, snoring, TMJ issues, mouth breathing, improvements in facial symmetry, and more!
Welcome to Midcoast Myo! I am happy to connect here with you.
I graduated from Wallace State in Hanceville, Alabama in 2018 with a degree in dental hygiene. After practicing in Huntsville, Alabama, I moved to Midcoast Maine in 2020 for my career. It was here I discovered the world of airway focused health and dentistry. In Fall of 2021, I took my first courses discussing myofunctional therapy. The idea that our breathing, sleep, and oral resting posture impacts our overall wellbeing fascinated me! I soon discovered there were limited resources for airway-focused practitioners in Maine to refer my patients to. Because of this, I looked into the requirements for becoming an OMT and found my background as a RDH professionally qualified me to pursue it. In 2023, I extended my knowledge through Airway Health Solutions in Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy. I continue to practice as a registered dental hygienist, but currently do myofunctional therapy outside the office as a separate passion. My heart in preventative oral health and overall wellbeing have me excited to bring this service to our community!
Being born and raised in a small town in Alabama named Guntersville, I quickly found a sense of home in the seaside town of Rockland, Maine. My hometown is known for its fishing in the beautiful lake (the largest in the state!) and wildlife. Although far from my dear friends and family, Maine has given me a surprisingly warm welcome cozy enough to establish roots here. When I moved here, a local shared a well-known saying, “there’s no bad weather, just bad clothes!”. So even on the blisteringly chilly days, you can find this thin-blooded Southerner bundled up enjoying the outdoors, adventuring with my dog, Sunday, or indoors with a warm blanket while reading with my cat, Clementine.
